Monday May 16 – Another controlled burn is planned by the Boone Fire Department on Marich Lane in the area of Perkinsville Drive and Clawson Street. For more information visit this link.


Traffic Alert for Monday May 16 – A lane closure will occur at the Quality Oil construction site on 105 in Foscoe to create a turn lane. The closure is planned for 9:00am to 4:00pm. Flaggers will be in that area. Allow extra travel time.

Traffic Alert for Tuesday, May 17th – A lane closure will occur at the Quality Oil construction site on 105 in Foscoe to create a turn lane. The closure is planned for 9:00am to 4:00pm. Flaggers will be in that area. Allow extra travel time.


Traffic Alert for Tuesday, May 17th – New River Light and Power will be conducting utility work that will result in the closure of the southbound lane of 421 between Highland Hall Rd and Oak Grove Rd from 8am-11am. Flaggers will be in place directing traffic.


Traffic Alert for Tuesday May 17th and Wednesday May 18th – NCDOT Maintenance has scheduled replacement of a stormwater pipe on King Street near the intersection of Coffey Street.  Construction activities will require both lanes of the road to be closed between the hours of 9am & 4pm on Tuesday May 17th and Wednesday May 18th.  NCDOT staff placed message boards Friday afternoon to alert local traffic to the impending closure.  Plans are to detour through traffic via Poplar Grove Connector – Poplar Grove/River Street – Hardin Street.  Please call NCDOT Watauga Maintenance at 828-268-6040 for questions or concerns.

Traffic Alert Friday May 20 – Blue Ridge Energy will be moving powerlines overnight on Friday, May 20, and early Saturday, May 21, at the intersection of Highway 105 and Broadstone Road causing temporary traffic delays. For more information visit this link.


Saturday May 21 – The annual Watauga County Emergency Fest returns this year, after missing two years due to the pandemic. The 2022 event will take place Saturday May 21 from 10am to 2pm at the Peacock Lot (formerly known as the Raley Lot) on the ASU campus. For more information visit this link.


Saturday May 21 – Celebration of life for Marie Freeman, the former long time local media photographer and long time Appalachian State photographer, will take place at 3pm on the App State campus. More information at this link.
