Traffic Alert Friday July 23 4:22pm – Wreck – area of 105 at Taylor Road in Foscoe – multiple vehicles involved. Expect delays in that area.

Traffic Alert Friday July 23 4:15pm – Wreck – area of old 421 & 421 in Deep Gap. Expect possible delays in that area.

Traffic Alert Friday July 23 4:12pm – stuck tractor-trailer on Wilson's Ridge. Expect possible delays in that area.

From NCSHP Thursday July 22 4:32pm – Troopers are currently assisting with a road closure on US 321 in Caldwell County near Hudson between Mission Road and Pine Mountain Road due to a gas leak.  At approximately 2:00 p.m., a construction company reportedly struck a main gas line while digging beside the roadway.  Both north and southbound lanes are expected to be closed in the area until after midnight.  The NC State Highway Patrol is working with the NC Department of Transportation and local authorities on a detour.  Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes.

Traffic Alert Thursday July 22 – Guardrail construction on 421 on Wilkes Mountain, southbound traffic down to one lane until near the bottom of the mountain.

Traffic Alert Thursday July 22 10:03am – Wreck – area of 421 and Stony Fork Road. Expect delays in that area.

Traffic Alert Thursday July 22 9:45am – Wreck – area of old 421 and Elk Creek Road turnoff. Expect delays in that area.

Traffic Alert Wednesday July 21 – King Street westbound lane, in front of Millers industries and Circle K, down to one lane for paving. Flag-persons on the scene.

Wednesday July 21 – Sidewalk work near the mall on 321, down to one lane southbound.

Traffic Alert Tuesday July 20 2:29pm – Tractor-trailer stuck on the S curve on Valle Mountain (194 between Valle Crucis and Matney). Fire Dept on scene directing traffic.

Traffic Alert Monday July 19 12:11pm – Wreck – area of 194 north & Castle Ford Road. Expect delays in that area.


Update 5:29pm – Fire & EMS have cleared the scene at the Watauga/Wilkes line. All lanes of 421 are back open.

Follow Up 4:03pm – Expect extended delays in the area of the Watauga/Wilkes line. Fire & EMS are on the scene directing traffic.

Traffic Alert Friday July 16 3:42pm – Wreck – area of 421 at the Watauga/Wilkes line, multiple vehicles involved. Expect delays in that area.


Traffic Alert Friday July 16 10:11am – Road closed – area of old 421 and Hite Williams Road in Zionville. Tree down on a power line. Crews are on the scene.

Traffic Alert Monday July 5 12:31pm – Wreck – area of Blowing Rock Road in front of Publix. Expect possible delays in that area.

***UPDATE 1:53 pm – the previously block off streets in and around downtown Boone are back open** Saturday July 3, 2021 10:27am – Several streets in and around downtown Boone are blocked off due to a crime scene investigation. Per scanner dispatches the suspect has been caught. There is no active situation at this time. Expect detours in that area.

Traffic Alert Friday July 2 7:31am – 321 in Avery County, near the NC/TN line, is closed due to a mudslide. The slide is at Flat Springs Road, which is close to the Watauga County line. Expected to be closed until after noon.
