The Watauga County Sheriff's Office is once again receiving reports about jury duty scams.
Please be aware that people in the area are receiving calls that appear to be from the Sheriff's Office (the caller ID shows its from us). These callers are telling citizens that they have missed jury duty and have a warrant for their arrest. Not only can these callers copy our phone numbers, but they also use the names of some of our deputies.
We will NEVER ask you to pay money or send us anything of value to avoid arrest.
If you get a call from someone that purports to be with the Sheriff's Office, you can always call communications or the Sheriff's Office at 828-264-3761 to verify whether the call was actually from Law enforcement.
Never send money, gift cards, or anything of value to anyone unless you verify who they are first.
