The Watauga Pioneers football team completed a third-straight undefeated regular season Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, with a 28-18 conference win over the St. Stephens Indians. The victory sealed a 10-0 overall record and a 5-0 record in the Northwestern 6A/7A league for the Pioneers.

Watauga has won 10 consecutive games this season, with its last victory featuring a strong first half against the Indians. The Pioneers' defense held St. Stephens in check, though the offense stalled after the break. The win extends the Pioneers' impressive run, which included a 42-20 win over Freedom earlier in October.

Player highlights

  • Cade Keller: The senior quarterback had a standout performance in a 55-21 win over McDowell on Oct. 25, throwing for 289 yards and four touchdowns while also adding a rushing touchdown. He has been a leader of the offense throughout the season.
  • Everett Gryder: A senior running back, Gryder returned to the team after missing the first game of the season and has been a key part of the rushing attack.
  • Nyle Peays: The senior wide receiver has been a reliable target for Keller.
  • Brady Lindenmuth: A senior defensive end, Lindenmuth has been a leader on the defensive line.

Looking ahead
Head coach Ryan Habich's team will now prepare for the playoffs as one of the top teams in North Carolina. Watauga is currently ranked No. 20 in the state, according to a MaxPreps ranking released Oct. 30. The Pioneers hope to build on their 10-game winning streak and make a deep postseason run.
