PUBLIC NOTICE – TOWN OF JEFFERSON – Stage 4 of the Emergency Water Shortage Response Plan Now in Effect

Last Updated on February 23, 2026 8:02 am

The Town of Jefferson has declared a Stage 4 Emergency Reduction under its Water Shortage Response Plan. Water supply conditions are substantially diminished and pose an imminent threat to public health and environmental integrity.

All customers must immediately reduce water use by 25% compared to their previous month's bill. The use of potable water is banned except to protect public health and safety. All restrictions from Stages 1-3 remain in effect. A drought surcharge of 2 times the normal water rate is now in effect.

Violations are subject to a $250 fine for first offense, with service disconnection upon a second violation.

This declaration will remain in effect until water shortage conditions have abated. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

For questions or to report a violation, contact Tim Church, Water Resources Director — (336) 246-2165 — jeffwns@centurylink.net or Charity Curtis, Town Manager — (336) 846-9368 — manager@townofjefferson.org
