Jim Landis of Blowing Rock Fire Department noted the building's rich history, dating back to before Prohibition. The structure once housed a speakeasy in its basement, adding historical intrigue to the restaurant's legacy.

The building's historic basement layout complicated firefighting efforts. Compartmentalized rooms in the lower area made water access difficult for emergency responders.
