The Watauga women's cross country team added to its storied history on Nov. 1, capturing the 6A state team championship at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex. The Pioneers' victory came on the back of another stellar performance from sophomore Cali Townsend, who finished third overall in the individual race.
The Pioneers, led by coach Randy McDonough, secured the team title by defeating East Chapel Hill. It was a dominant performance that cemented the program's reputation as a perennial power in North Carolina cross country.

- Lainey Johnston: Also a consistent top-10 finisher, Johnston, a junior, helped propel the team to victory at the regional championships.
- Josie Mayo: The freshman made an immediate impact, finishing in the top 10 at the regional meet.
