Pedestrian killed in Caldwell County on Sunday

Granite Falls- On Sunday, November 16th at approximately 6:35 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision involving a pedestrian on US 321 near Glen Ridge Drive, in Caldwell County. A 2021 GMC Sierra was traveling South on US 321 and collided with a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was walking on an unlit portion of the highway while wearing dark clothing.

The pedestrian, Michelle Lynn Berry, 38, of Lenoir, succumbed to her injuries on scene of the collision.

The driver of the GMC, Issac Nathaniel Winkler, 34, of Granite Falls, was not injured.

There are no charges anticipated in this case.

During the on-scene investigation, US 321 was partially closed for 2 hours.
