NCDOT to Improve Visibility on 3 Roads in Watauga, Avery Counties

BOONE – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will improve highway visibility by installing new pavement markings on three major corridors in Watauga and Avery counties.

TRP Construction Group earned the $268,000 contract to apply new pavement markings along nearly 30 miles of road on N.C. 105, U.S. 321 and N.C. 194 in Watauga and Avery counties.

The new markings, made with hot spray thermoplastic, will be more reflective and should last longer than standard pavement markings. NCDOT installed the same material on a portion of King Street in Boone over the summer.

Crews started removing existing stripes on N.C. 105 this week. Over the next month, they’ll install new pavement markings on:

  • N.C. 105 just south of Broadstone Road to U.S. 221 in Linville
  • N.C. 194 from Hopewell Church Road to U.S. 421/221
  • U.S. 321 from U.S. 421 to the Tennessee state line

Most of the work should be completed at night, weather permitting.
