As part of the N.C. Department of Transportation’s commitment to preserving bridges across the state, crews will begin making improvements to the U.S. 421 North and South bridges over the Yadkin River in Forsyth County this week.
They will chip out the old, deteriorated concrete on the twin spans located near Dinkins Bottoms Road and replace it with fresh concrete. Crews will also remove the damaged sections of the aging expansion joints on the U.S. 421 North bridge and install new sections in their place. The work will enhance safety and help the bridges last longer.
To make these repairs, crews must close the left lane of the highway in both directions, starting Tuesday, April 2, at 8 p.m. The road will reopen on Wednesday, April 3, at 6 a.m. This nightly closure pattern will continue each weekday until the end of May.
During that time, NCDOT will alert the public if crews need to close the right lane of U.S. 421 to conduct bridge preservation work.
The closure may cause traffic congestion in the work zone. NCDOT encourages motorists to pay close attention to construction-related signs and allow plenty of extra time to reach their destinations safely.
