AVERY COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Avery County, effective from 1 p.m. Monday, December 29, through 7 a.m. Tuesday, December 30.
Wind Expectations: Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 60 mph possible during the warning period.
Affected Areas: The warning includes all of Avery County, including the cities of Newland, Banner Elk, and Ingalls.
Potential Impacts: Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
