ZIONVILLE — Zionville Fire and NC Forest Service units responded to a structure fire in the 3000 block of NC Highway 88 on Saturday, March 21, 2026, after a controlled burn escaped and began threatening an adjacent barn.
The initial call came in at 12:26 p.m. While units were en route, they were informed the fire was approaching a barn on the property. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the escaped burn had reached the barn, which was beginning to catch fire. The incident was upgraded to a structure fire response, and additional units were dispatched.
The fire was brought under control at 1:01 p.m.
Zionville Fire is urging residents to use extra caution with outdoor burning as the area experiences drying conditions. Anyone whose fire escapes should call 911 immediately and not attempt to fight the fire themselves.
