AVERY COUNTY – Avery County Emergency Management is closely monitoring the incoming weather system and has placed a warming shelter on standby due to the potential for impacts and power outages.
A warming shelter will be opened at the Rock Gym if a major power outage occurs. The standby period runs from Wednesday night through Friday morning.
At this time, the shelter is on standby and will open if conditions warrant. Residents should continue to monitor Avery County Emergency Management's official social media channels for updates and announcements.
Residents who rely on medical equipment, including supplemental oxygen, should make advance preparations and have backup power or supplies available.
