NEWLAND, N.C. – The Avery County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with LiveWell Avery, has released a new video explainer to help residents better understand and use the Sheriff’s mobile app. First launched in March 2024, the Avery County Sheriff NC app has quickly become a vital tool for community connection, with several updates and new features added since its debut. Available for free on both Apple and Android devices, the app provides an all-in-one platform to keep Avery County citizens informed, engaged, and safe.
The new video walks viewers step-by-step through the app, highlighting how to download it and showcasing features like “Submit a Tip,” “Contact Us,” school safety resources, inmate search, and community news alerts. The video emphasizes how simple it is for residents to access essential resources directly from their phones, making safety and communication more convenient than ever.
The video also features an interview with Avery County Sheriff Mike Henley, who underscored the importance of using technology to strengthen community ties. “It’s a way to disseminate information fairly rapidly. It gives us an ability to put information out—everything from scams to wanted persons, and weather alerts. It’s just a good way to communicate with our community and that’s in a nutshell what the app’s about,” said Henley. He added that beyond safety, the app is helping build stronger relationships between law enforcement and citizens by offering a direct, user-friendly line of communication.
Since its launch, the app has continued to expand its offerings, now including a sex offender registry, job postings within the Sheriff’s Office, resources for Hurricane Helene recovery, and tools for addiction help and crime prevention. Parents can also directly reach school resource officers, while residents have quick access to updates on missing persons, most wanted individuals, and emergency alerts. With its built-in links to social media channels and a growing list of features, the app has become an essential tool for staying connected with local law enforcement.
LiveWell Avery collaborated with the Sheriff’s Office to produce the new explainer video, ensuring residents of all ages can easily understand and access the app. You may also download the Avery County Sheriff NC App directly from the Apple App or Google Play Store.
