AppHealthCare is eliminating 23 positions effective June 30, 2026, Health Director and CEO Jennifer Greene announced Friday in a statement citing budgetary constraints that have stretched the organization beyond what is sustainable.
“This decision was driven by budgetary constraints that have stretched our organization — and many like ours — beyond what is sustainable,” Greene said. “It was not made lightly, and it does not reflect the talent, dedication, or value of the individuals affected.”
The announcement came during National Public Health Week, a timing Greene acknowledged in her statement. “This moment is a reminder of what is at stake when public health funding falls short of what communities actually need,” she said.
Greene said she is personally reaching out to partner and community employers on behalf of those whose positions are being eliminated, and called on organizations that are hiring to contact AppHealthCare directly.
“To those whose positions are being eliminated: your work has mattered. Your commitment to public health has made a difference in real people's lives,” Greene said.
Greene used the statement to call on legislators, funders, and partners to provide greater support for public health operations. “The people doing this work deserve stable, sustainable support. That is not too much to ask,” she said. “AppHealthCare will not be defined by this moment — we will be defined by how we rise from it.”
AppHealthCare serves Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany counties.
