AppHealthCare new mobile unit unveiled in Watauga County, to be used in AHC district

On Friday, August 8, AppHealthCare (AHC) unveiled the new mobile health bus at its Watauga County location.

The mobile health services aim to increase access and deliver high-quality, compassionate healthcare in the most rural parts of the AHC-served communities.

Access to care was identified by the community as a top health priority in the 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment. In an effort to address this need and improve health outcomes, mobile health services are recommended as a best practice for rural underserved communities.

The mobile health services will deliver medical care, dental care, and mental health care throughout Alleghany, Ashe & Watauga.

The bus is a 38-foot converted recreational vehicle (RV) with slide-outs for two exam rooms, waiting area, laboratory, and bathroom.  The bus is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act by offering a wheelchair lift and ample space for mobility.

The mobile health unit comes equipped with an electricity hookup, water hookup and wifi unit.  If a hookup is unavailable while in the community setting, the unit is able to self-power with an onboard generator and water tank with gray water and fresh water supply.

They offer comprehensive primary medical care, dental care, and behavioral health care on the mobile health bus.

AHC will accept both scheduled appointments and walk-in same-day visits.

All insurances are accepted and offer a discount sliding fee scale with payment plans.  Services are available regardless of someone’s ability to pay.
