The 13th annual William Mast Jr. Memorial Motorcycle Ride took place on Saturday. Riders from all across the local area, region, state and other states made up the 150 motorcycles and 189 riders taking part in the event.
The annual event began after Watauga County Deputy William Mast Jr. was shot and killed while responding to a call in the early morning hours of July 26, 2012.
Proceeds from the annual ride go toward scholarships at Watauga High School in memory of William Mast Jr., Pat Baker, Chris Ward and Logan Fox – all four men were Deputies with the Watauga County Sheriff's Office when they passed away. Also, scholarships are in memory of Luke Short and Destin Finley, both of whom were former dispatchers and passed away from cancer.
