On Monday, November 25, at approximately 8:25 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a collision in Watauga County on US 321 near Ralph Wilson Road.  A 2001 Sterling dump truck traveling north on US 321, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2020 Ford Focus.

The driver of the dump truck, Curtis Carol Peterson Jr., 45, of Faison, was treated by EMS for minor injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Todd Benjamin Workman, 64, of Columbia, was transported by medical helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center, with life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision.  Peterson was charged with failure to reduce speed and driving left of center.  During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.
