(WILKES COUNTY, N.C.) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has arrested Wilkes County Register of Deeds Misty Michelle Smithey (W/F DOB 01/13/1978) following a drug investigation in Wilkes County.
Smithey has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy to possess methamphetamine. She was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Wilkes County Detention Center this afternoon.
The SBI continues its work to address illegal drug activity throughout North Carolina. Further details about the investigation, including potential additional suspects or charges, are not being released at this time due to the ongoing nature of the case.
