The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas for… Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina… Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…
* Until 715 PM EDT.
* At 411 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated an area of persistent moderate to heavy rain showers extending across mainly the eastern portion of Watauga and Ashe counties. Up to an inch of rain has fallen during the past hour or so in these areas including Boone, Bamboo, Todd, and Jefferson. Poor drainage and low-lying areas will be subject to minor flooding.
* Some locations that could experience flooding include… Boone… Jefferson… West Jefferson… Blowing Rock… Lansing… Foscoe… and Glendale Springs. This includes the following streams and drainages… North Fork New River, Darnell Creek, Mulberry Creek, Vanderpool Creek and Watauga River.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
