Two earthquakes were recorded in Wilkes County just after midnight. Both quakes were located near the Hayes community.
The first one, at 12:34 am, registered 1.8 magnitude and was located 6.8 miles North-northwest of Hays and 29.3 miles East-northeast of Boone, according to the United States Geological Society.
The second one, at 12:34 am, registered 1.7 magnitude and was located 6.6 miles North-northwest of Hays and 29.6 miles East-northeast of Boone, according to the United States Geological Society.
The last time an earthquake was recorded in Wilkes County was Sunday, September 20, 2020, a 2.1 magnitude near Miller's Creek.
