WEST JEFFERSON – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close the left turn lanes in both directions of U.S. 221 at the intersection of Mt. Jefferson Road this week.
Beginning the morning of Sept. 12 through Oct. 16, crews from James R. Vannoy and Sons Construction will work to construct a median and turn lanes at the intersection.
U.S. 221 South traffic attempting to turn left onto Mt. Jefferson Road will instead be detoured to Ashe County High School Drive, while U.S. 221 North traffic will be detoured to Long Street.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution when approaching the detour and work zone.
