Town of Boone To Begin Work On Howard Street Project

Last Updated on November 23, 2015 10:43 am

In November 2015, the Town of Boone selected and approved the contract for John Davenport Engineering, Inc. to develop construction plans, and provide construction administration and inspection for the proposed Howard Street Enhancement Project. Davenport’s project team consists of Davis-Martin-Powell & Associates, Inc. and Glave & Holmes Architecture.

This project will provide for the enhancement of a two-block section of Howard Street in downtown Boone from Appalachian Street to Water Street. The intent of the proposed project is to upgrade existing water and sewer lines, upgrade the existing storm drainage system, provide efficient and safe accommodations for pedestrians, bicycles and vehicles, and provide parking and loading areas for users and property owners. Landscape plantings, improved street lighting, concrete pavers and accessories such as bollards, kiosks and benches will be included to enhance the area’s appeal. The project is anticipated to be constructed within the Town of Boone’s current right-of-way and easements.

Topographical surveys and property boundary surveys are scheduled to begin on Dec. 7, 2015. Following the completion of survey work, Davenport and the Town of Boone will host additional public meetings to keep the community updated and to solicit design input. The first of several public meetings is expected to be held in February, upon completion of the survey work.
