Appalachian State University will welcome an expected 3,050 freshmen to campus beginning Aug. 14 when they move into campus residence halls. All other students living on campus will move into their residence halls Aug. 15.
Total enrollment is expected to be 18,142, about a 0.6 percent increase over the fall 2014 enrollment numbers, according to Susan Davies, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management. The increase will largely be with main campus undergraduate students.
A total of 1,170 new transfer students are expected on campus as well as 460 new graduate students. The total graduate enrollment will be stable for fall, reversing a five-year trend of declining graduate student enrollments. Graduate student enrollment on campus will total about 1,000 students.
Distance education enrollment is expected to total 1,383 students, 733 of whom will be enrolled in off-campus graduate programs and 650 who are undergraduates.
The diversity of the new student class continues to increase, according to Davies, with nearly 15 percent of freshmen and 16 percent of transfer students who have submitted advanced deposits indicating they are racially diverse students.
Classes will begin Aug. 17.
