The annual running of the Blue Ridge Relay takes place Friday and Saturday. It is one of the longest-running relay races in the United States and takes place in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and North Carolina.
The race consists of maximum 12 person (4 person minimum) teams that rotate through 36 legs/segments as they cover the approximate 208 mile distance. It begins in Grayson Highlands State Park on Friday and ends in Asheville on Saturday.
Local motorists should be aware of runners on certain roads all across the High Country. Below are details of each leg of the event.
ADVISORY: Friday, Sept. 6 – Road Race from MP 280 to MP 291 near Watauga County from 12-8 P.M. Be alert for runners on the road. Local traffic seek alternate route.
