Sunday, Feb 1, 2026 – There's been a lot of social media chatter regarding road salt supplies, both locally and statewide. I reached out to NCDOT, and here is their statement:
“Due to winter storm responses, road salt and other anti-icing or de-icing supplies remain limited nationwide. Sustained cold temperatures and winter precipitation have significantly increased demand for treatment materials statewide.
NCDOT is prepared to respond as needed to this weekend’s storm and is working with our suppliers to restock salt supplies for future events. We are also keeping close tabs on our current supplies and making necessary adjustments so we can focus our efforts on clearing state-maintained roads as quickly and effectively as possible.
NCDOT is encouraging local governments, public works departments, and emergency management agencies to coordinate directly with private suppliers or contracted local vendors for their salt or treatment needs.”
