12:34pm – getting the first report of rain changing to sleet in Boone. Roads as of this posting are still just wet from rain throughout the day. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the 20s this afternoon.

1pm – sleet  reported in Valle Crucis and Zionville.

Temps have dropped to 35 degrees in Boone at 1pm, after a high of 52 at midnight .

1:20pm – starting to see the change over to snow in Valle Crucis.

1:50pm – reports of snow continue to come in from across Watauga. None sticking as of yet, roads are just wet but temperatures are dropping into the mid to lower 30s across the area.

3pm – getting a report that a traffic light at New Market Center is not working correctly causing traffic to get backed up in that area.

3:20pm – getting a report that Boone Mountain/421 is slick once you pass Hill Top heading down the hill.

3:50pm – snow has stopped across much of the county now. Any slick spots on paved roads should melt quickly, however temperatures continue to drop. Ice on roads could become an issue as the afternoon and night progresses.

6:45pm – no reported travel issues as temperatures in Boone continue to hold at 32 degrees. They are still forecast to drop into the teens tonight with single digit wind chills.
