Recent Winter Weather Pushes Back Last Calendar Day For Watauga County Schools

Last Updated on March 15, 2017 7:36 pm

By all accounts it's been a mild winter…..correction, a VERY mild winter. However with recent winter weather keeping Watauga County School students out of class the last scheduled day for the calendar year has been pushed back into June now, which is not totally unexpected.

As of Wednesday March 15, 2017 only 7 days have been missed the entire school year. Though winter is not over in the High Country, and more days could be missed, it is worth noting that the last time fewer days missed was 2011-12 with 5 days & 6 days were missed in both 2006-07 & 2007-08.

The last scheduled day for students is now June 1.

Data from the Watauga County School system shows that since 1996 the last day for students in June has occurred 16 times during those 21 years.

Below is the revised school calendar, the make up plan for 2016-17 and historical start and end dates.
