A potentially devastating house fire was narrowly avoided on the evening of Wednesday, January 21st when residents of a Margot Road home quickly responded to smoke alarms, successfully evacuating the property without injury.
According to Watauga County Communications, the incident began around 7:00 PM when occupants noticed light smoke filling their residence. Smoke detectors immediately began sounding, alerting the four residents to the developing emergency.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene discovered an active fire in the bathroom ceiling, originating from a malfunctioning exhaust fan. Thanks to the early detection and swift evacuation, the fire was quickly contained, resulting in only minor fire and smoke damage to the structure.
A comprehensive emergency response was mounted, with multiple local agencies collaborating to manage the situation. Responding units included Boone Fire, Deep Gap Fire, Meat Camp Fire, Watauga County EMS, the Watauga County Fire Marshal's Office, and BREMCO.
Fire officials are reminding local residents about the critical importance of functional smoke detection systems.
