On Thursday May 3rd, 2012, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit personnel responded to the Elk Knob State Park in reference to a possible clandestine laboratory dumpsite. Upon inspection officers were able to confirm the presence of items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. These items were initially discovered by maintenance personnel that work at the state park and they reported it to the park rangers, who in turn, reported it to the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office. The items were found to be inert and safe and were cleaned up accordingly.
This is the third methamphetamine laboratory in as many weeks and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office personnel are working to locate and arrest the suspects responsible.
