(NORTH CAROLINA) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has sent four K-9 teams to the Hill Country of Texas to aid in the devastating flood recovery efforts. Two teams departed from the Asheville Airport around 5am this morning, and another pair took off from the Raleigh-Durham Airport at 9am. In recent weeks, several agencies have relocated out of Kerr County, Texas, and the need to replace their work is still evident. SBI Director Chip Hawley reached out to our Texas counterparts and offered our assistance, which was immediately welcomed. Hawley said, “North Carolina has been devastated by hurricanes and other natural disasters in the past, and our friends from many other states have always come to our aid. Now it’s our time to step up and help them out. It’s the right thing to do.”

So, in just the last couple of days, we’ve executed a mission to send some of the best K-9 teams in the country to assist. The K-9 teams will be assisting in recovery efforts, as there are still people missing from the horrific flooding. Our base of operations will be in the Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas area. The SBI will be sharing our team’s journey for the next two weeks while they do very important work to help Texas families who still have family members missing.

The SBI is committed to service anywhere it is needed. The agents of the NC SBI are the best in the country, and we are thankful for the resources supplied by the North Carolina Legislature and our law enforcement partners to be able to offer a helping hand to our friends in Texas.
