The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed N.C. 268 in Caldwell County today for repairs due to Wednesday’s storm. A portion of the road and shoulder near the Wilkes County line buckled due to high water caused by the storm.
Lighting units will be brought in so crews will be able to work at night. NCDOT hopes to have the road opened this weekend.
While the closure is in place, motorists will take the following signed detour route:
Heading east, take Grandin Road to N.C. 18 north to Boomer Road in Wilkes County, and back to N.C. 268. Westbound traffic will reverse the route.
