Lowering U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Thursday will mark 82 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where more than 2,000 service members and civilians died on December 7, 1941.

Statement from Governor Roy Cooper
“Today, we recognize and honor the courageous Americans who gave their lives defending our country during the attack on Pearl Harbor,” said Governor Cooper. “We owe a deep debt of gratitude to those who fight to protect our freedom at home and abroad each day.”

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are also encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the duration of time indicated.
