A local section of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) is closed.
The section is in Segment 5 (EB Miles 40.7-42.7; WB Miles 42.2-44.2) between US 421 and the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Elk Mountain Overlook. The closure is due to repairs and reconstruction on the Parkway bridge crossing US 421, according to the Mountains-to-Sea Facebook page.
There is no projected date for the reopening.
No feasible detour route is available. During the closure, MST day- and section-hikers should make alternate plans; thru-hikers should either reach out to us via social media or contact Jim Grode, jgrode@mountainstoseatrail.org to make arrangements for a shuttle around the closure a few days in advance.
