Increased Fire Danger through Saturday

Last Updated on April 10, 2020 7:24 am

The North Carolina Forest Service (NCFS) is warning of increased fire danger.

Fire Danger is predicted to be very high for much of North Carolina through Saturday due to low humidity and strong, gusty winds.

For areas that received rain in the past 24 hours, fuels will dry quickly this afternoon, according to NCFS. Areas that received little to no rain can expect worsening conditions sooner in the day. If predicted rain begins late Saturday/early Sunday, fire danger should be low to moderate through Wednesday (4/15).

32 counties in western North Carolina, including Watauga and surrounding counties, are currently under a ban on all open burning until further notice.
