Gas prices across the High Country remain elevated this Easter Sunday, with the national average up more than $1.00 per gallon since late February.
Here's where prices stand as of Sunday, April 5, 2026:
- Boone Area (Regular): $3.89/gallon — verified in person at Circle K and Speedway, NC-105 S
- Diesel (Local Low): $5.79/gallon
- North Carolina Average: $3.91/gallon
- National Average: $4.08/gallon
The national average has climbed more than $1.00 per gallon since February 26, when it stood at $2.98 — one of the steepest monthly surges in recent years. The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has disrupted oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes.
Crude oil prices have topped $100 per barrel multiple times in recent weeks. The White House has released oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but analysts say meaningful relief at the pump has not yet arrived.
