Linemen with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation are nearing full power restoration for members of the cooperative as they finish repairs of power lines and replacements of multiple broken power poles from severe winter weather last night.
After a high of 2,400 overnight, 120 members are still experiencing outages as of 11 a.m. today as a result of last night’s high winds and heavy snow leading to numerous downed trees primarily in Watauga and Ashe counties. Some damage also occurred in Caldwell and Avery counties, affecting members in these areas.
Due to the possibility that damage could be affecting a single member household or location, please report all outages to the cooperative. The fastest, most effective way to report an outage is by calling the cooperative’s PowerLine at 1-800-448-2383. Members are urged to call right away if they haven’t already reported an existing outage.
Members are reminded that downed power lines can be extremely dangerous—even deadly. Stay far away and report downed lines to Blue Ridge Electric or by calling 911.
