The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Western Alleghany County in northwestern North Carolina…
Eastern Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina…
Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina…

* Until 830 AM EDT Monday.

* At 223 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to
three inches of rain have already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT…Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Boone…
Jefferson…
West Jefferson…
Blowing Rock…
Lansing…
Glendale Springs…
and Deep Gap.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the
warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding,
including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service
by calling toll free at 1…8 6 6…2 1 5…4 3 2 4. Reports and
