Area residents may find it a bit strange if Facebook is asking “Are You Safe” from the wildfire in the Sampson area.
Introduced on October 14, 2014, Facebook has provided a way for users to mark that they are “safe” from disasters and crises. Before today the feature has never been activated locally, but regionally was used for the Charlotte riots and Hurricane Matthew just in the last few months.
The Horton Fire safety check was active as of early Tuesday November 22, 2016. The page does not accurately represent where the fire is and how many people could be impacted.
