A 2.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded by the United States Geological Society near Boone on Monday night, according to data released Tuesday morning.
The event was centered 9 miles north of Lenoir, 13 miles southeast of Boone, 22 miles north-northeast of Morganton and 24 miles north-northwest of Hickory at 9:46pm. The last recorded earthquake centered in the High Country occurred on July 21, 2016. Six total earthquakes occurred in 2014. If you felt the quake you can report it to the USGS at this link.
