Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye would like to remind citizens of Avery County of two phone numbers available to anyone who has information about crime in Avery County. Avery County has a drug hotline phone number “828-898-5313” that can be used to pass on drug information while remaining anonymous. This number is not staffed 24/7 but a message can be left if it is not answered. A second number is the local number for High Country Crime Stoppers of 828-737-0125. This number also allows the caller to remain anonymous while giving information about any type of criminal activity. Callers who call the Crime Stoppers number with information that leads to the arrest of suspects, recovery of stolen property or illegal drugs are eligible for a cash reward from the High Country Crime Stoppers.
The Avery County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of damage to property in the past few weeks. A citizen from Linville area reports damage to a tractor where all four tires on the tractor were cut or punctured. The same tractor also had sugar in the fuel tank on two separate occasions. Anyone with information about this or any other crime is encouraged to call the Avery County Sheriff’s Office or the High Country Crime Stoppers.
