Winds atop Grandfather Mountain reached over 100 mph on Friday.
The official reading of 101.9 mph occured on Friday morning, according to data from the North Carolina Climate Office. The all-time record wind speed in 58 years of weather observations is 120.7 mph which occurred in December 2012, according to articles posted on WataugaOnline.com in December 2012 and January 2013.
Gusts of 105 mph and 103 mph were recorded in October 2012 . In December 2017 a 98 mph mark was recorded.
