During the winter storms this week Grandfather Mountain recorded a wind gust of 98.7 mph. The gust occurred during the 11pm hour of Tuesday night December 12, 2017.
The all-time record wind speed in 58 years of weather observations is 120.7 mph which occurred in December 2012, according to articles posted on WataugaOnline.com in December 2012 and January 2013.
