Winter Storm Warning for Watauga & Ashe extended until 7am Friday Feb 19, 2021

UPDATE – The Winter Storm Warning is CANCELLED, a Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 7am Friday for Watauga & Ashe.

…Significant Mix of Wintry Precipitation Expected… .A low pressure system will bring winter precipitation across the Mid Atlantic today and tonight. Significant amounts of snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected. The precipitation will change over to freezing rain for most locations this morning. Colder air could change the precipitation back to a mix of snow and sleet tonight.

…WINTER STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST FRIDAY…

  • WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation. Additional snow
    accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of up
    to one half of an inch.
  • WHERE…Portions of southwest Virginia and northwest North
    Carolina.
  • WHEN…Until 7 AM EST Friday.
  • IMPACTS…Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the
    snow and ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous
    conditions will impact the morning and evening commute today
    and the morning commute on Friday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.
