BLOWING ROCK — Watauga County Schools is pleased to announce third-grade teacher Lara Whiteside as the 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year. Whiteside was named the district teacher of the year in a surprise assembly in the school’s gymnasium on April 26.
“Mrs. Whiteside is not the type of person that likes this type of recognition and yet the recognition is perfect for her,” said Blowing Rock School principal Patrick Sukow. “She is a professional teacher, takes the job very seriously and does her best work every day. She values the individualism of each of her students and builds a relationship with each child. The work that I have been able to witness, as a principal and as a parent, makes a lasting impression on the students she serves. She is a valued teacher, not only by the staff but also the community of Blowing Rock School. We are extremely proud to say that she teaches at Blowing Rock School and we know she is an outstanding representative for Watauga County Schools.”
Whiteside is a proud third-grade teacher at Blowing Rock School, where she has been teaching for two decades.
“I love visiting Mrs. Whiteside's classroom,” said Superintendent Dr. Leslie Alexander. “She creates such a caring environment for her students, and you can tell how much they love being in her class. Her students work hard for her because they know she believes in them.”
“I am honored, thankful, and completely humbled, to be named Watauga County's Teacher of the Year,” Whiteside said. “I have had so many amazing teachers, colleagues, and mentors through the years. I am positive that without that support, I wouldn't be where I am today. I am excited about representing our district!”
Congratulations, Mrs. Whiteside!
