The weekend winter storm that produced as much as 13 inches of snow in portions of Watauga County also put Boone into the record books for two consecutive days. Snowfall of 4 inches on Friday the 22nd tied Boone for the fourth most for that date. Another 4 inches on Saturday the 23rd moved Boone into fourth most for that date.
In all Boone recorded totals from 8 to 11.5 inches according to data reported to the National Weather Service. County wide high totals of 13.8 and 12.0 were reported from Blowing Rock for the duration of the storm. Though that data is for a three day period, by comparison the greatest one day snowfall record for January is 19.0 in Boone on January 27, 1998. The greatest all time one day snowfall record is 24 inches on March 13, 1993.
