It was back to school time in Watauga County on Monday. After 67 days of summer vacation, students filled the eight elementary schools and Watauga High to get the 2019-20 calendar year underway.

Garrett Price, Director of Communications for Watauga County Schools, tells WataugaOnline.com, “We are very excited to kick off the school year. Our first day back went really well. It's always remarkable how quickly our teachers, staff and students get right back into the swing of things. Every classroom I had the opportunity to visit yesterday was full of students working and learning. It's looking like an encouraging start to a great year.”

Enrollment is up to a new high point. “As of yesterday, we are at just over 4,800 students including pre-k. That's approximately a 15 year high.”, Price added.

Here’s a look at the first day back via social media.
