Watauga County Schools Reopening Parent Survey

Last Updated on June 19, 2020 9:40 am

The Watauga County School system is reaching out to families of local school students to get their input on plans to reopen schools this coming August.

In an email sent to families, and also available on the school system's website, Dr. Scott Elliott gives an update on the possible plans for reopening. The update includes a link to a survey to give feedback on the plans and what options might work best for your family.

A video and full email statement sent out can be found below.

Good afternoon Watauga families, this is Superintendent Scott Elliott with an important message about our plans to reopen schools this coming August.

State education and health officials have outlined several different possibilities for reopening based on the severity of COVID-19 metrics.

The plans range from opening as normal with full capacity, to a more restricted start that will allow only half of students to be in the school buildings at a time, to school being fully closed to in-person learning and returning to full remote instruction.

While the Governor has not yet made the final determination as to which route public schools in North Carolina will take, we are proactively planning for all possibilities. We continue to hope that all students will be in school with us on the first day of school on August 17.

We have updated our coronavirus information webpage with more specific information about each of the reopening possibilities. You can find it at wataugaschools.org/coronavirus.

On that webpage, you’ll also find a link to a survey that will allow you to give feedback on the plans and what options might work best for your family. We need assistance and information from parents as we develop these plans for next year.

While it’s our earnest hope that COVID-19 metrics will improve enough to allow us to return to school at full capacity safely in August, we want to prepare for every possibility that will allow us to have school while caring for the health and safety of our students and staff.

Please take the time to complete the survey at wataugaschools.org/coronavirus

Your feedback is helpful and greatly appreciated.

I hope you are having a safe and restful summer. Thank you.
