The last day of the 2016-17 school year for students in the Watauga County Schools system is Thursday June 1.
It will be an early release day, with students in the K-8 schools being dismissed at noon and students at Watauga High School being dismissed at 1:00pm. Lunch will be served in all schools and school buses will run their usual routes.
Motorists in the county are advised to allow for extra travel time around school zones, and to be aware of buses on the roads during mid-day.
Graduation ceremonies for Watauga High School take place at the Holmes Convocation Center at ASU beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3.
The school calendar for the next school year was approved by the Board of Education on November 14, 2016. The first school day for students will be Monday August 21, 2017. Teachers and other 10 month personnel will return to work on Tuesday, August 15th.
