Two Watauga Families Dealing With July 2013 Lightning Strike

Last Updated on July 18, 2013 6:01 pm

Two Watauga County families are dealing with the effects of a lighting strike on Wednesday night (July 17) after storms came raging through the area.

Around 8-8:15pm Toni & Ronnie Dishman decided to turn in early with the storms bearing down. Toni tells WataugaRoads.com that she had just closed the curtains because the lightning was frightening the dogs and then they felt and heard a huge pop. “It literally shook the walls of our bedroom” she added.

Awakening in the middle of the night they discovered no water or power. Waiting to morning to inspect further they discovered wood chips scattered at least 75-80 yards all around their home on Milton Moretz Road in the north eastern part of the county.

Toni adds that her mom and dad live nearby and lost most of their appliances because the storm fried them. Also a church in Valle Crucis sustained damage due to a lighting strike the same night.
